Basic tone: It starts at mid point of the tone level and keeps
it in the same level until it ends. So, the
tone is flat. In Taiwanese spelling, the vowels with no "tone letter"
(such as x, f, and r) must be pronounced in this tone.

- High tone: A high tone is like a tenor sings "Mi, mi, mi ...". When
the vowels contain "y" or "w", or is followed by a tone forming letter "f",
it must be pronounced high tone.

- Curving tone: This is the
longest tone among seven Taiwanese tones. It starts at midpoint of
tone level and falls and then rises. The tone becomes curving
and long. It is written in double letter. I.e: aa, ii, uu, ee, oo, oo

- Downard tone: When syllables end with "x" "xn", "xm" or "xng",
they must be pronounced in this tone. Remember, your don't pronounce
"x".
